Air Cooler Evaporators & Unit Coolers

Ceiling-mounted unit coolers that move cold air evenly through the room. Coils use inner-grooved copper tube with aluminium fins, with fin spacing chosen for the temperature so frost builds slowly and defrost stays efficient.

Selection guide

What to know before you specify.

A cold room evaporator (air cooler) absorbs heat from the room air as refrigerant boils inside its coil. DD series with about 4.5 mm fins suits chillers near 0 °C, DJ series with 6–8 mm fins suits −18 to −25 °C freezers, and DL or wide-fin coils suit blast freezing.

Common applications

  • Industrial cold rooms
  • Freezer rooms
  • Cold room cooling
  • Meat & fish processing
  • Industrial cold storage
  • Low-temperature rooms
  • Walk-in freezers
Series
DD medium temperature, DJ low temperature, DL high throw / blast
Coil
Copper tube, hydrophilic or plain aluminium fins, 4.5–12 mm spacing
Defrost
Electric heaters in coil and drain pan, or air/off-cycle for chillers
Fans
External-rotor axial fans 300–500 mm, IP54 typical
Why does fin spacing matter?

Frost forms faster at lower temperatures. Wider fin spacing keeps air passages open longer between defrosts, protecting capacity in freezers and blast freezers.

Electric defrost or air defrost?

Rooms above about +2 °C can defrost with the fans running during the off-cycle. Below that, electric heater defrost is the standard choice for reliability.

How many evaporators should a room have?

Air throw should cover the room length. Long rooms or racked stores often use two or more coolers to avoid warm spots; we lay this out on the room drawing.
